Feeling The Fear
Have you seen all those memes that say ‘Life begins at the end of your comfort zone…’? I have and this is absolutely true. When you do things that make you feel the fear you feel accomplished. If you want to be successful in your business and life then you need to encourage yourself to do something that scares you a little bit. Get out there and complete a new challenge. Try.
Trying one thing might not get you the results you want but trying something new leads you into a new direction that can make you realise your own purpose. It can challenge your mind, grow your confidence, make you feel better about yourself and teach you things you never knew you needed to know.
When it comes to challenging yourself the important thing is to take it small steps at a time. You don’t have to go big right away you can feel the fear at your own pace. The important thing to remember is that you’re doing it and that in itself is a big deal.
Set Yourself Goals
It could be something small like, for example, I want to do the couch to 5k challenge. I know I run like Pheobe from Friends and I do worry what people will think of me seeing a fat girl run. The judgement scares me and the commitment to the challenge is daunting but I know doing it will make me feel great about myself, it will increase my fitness and self-confidence. Those things mean so much more to me than what other people think.
It could be adding more money to your month. Set an amount. Instead of just thinking I want more money, think about how much more money would make an actual difference. Put a figure on it. That figure should scare you a little but the things that extra income can do for you should excite you. The excitement should drive you more than the fear. You can make it a little less scary by breaking it down too. You could need an extra £500 per month. Try dividing that by the number of days you are going to spend working for it. The smaller figure will seem much more manageable and achievable and it could be a really fun daily target too.
It could be wanting to write a novel. They say we all have at least one good novel inside us and if you feel writing a book is high up there on the things you want to do then set yourself the challenge. Again, it’s just a case of breaking it down. Set yourself a smaller, weekly amount of words you want to write, schedule it in and get going. Eventually, all those small goals will build up to your novel being ready to put together in full.
Goal setting is really important and a great way to help you get the most out of life. The important thing is to break them down to small, achievable chunks and that will get you living the life you want to live.
How are you challenging yourself this year? What goals have you set yourself?
